Cal Jordan and cutting-edge computational astrophysics

Cal Jordan, PhD graduate from the Clemson Physics and Astronomy program, helps create first-ever 3D simulation of an exploding white dwarf that naturally reached detonation conditions. Jordan participated in preparing and running the first 3D simulations of the GCD [Gravitationally Confined Detonation] model with the FLASH code to the point that detonation conditions were achieved. Says Jordan, "It was very exciting to be the first at the FLASH center to take a look at the data and see that we were successful with obtaining a detonation in 3D with the GCD model". More information can be obtained here and here.

Cal Jordan is a Research Associate at the FLASH Center which is part of the University of Chicago.
